Srinagar, June 18: The Congress legislators from north Kashmir boycotted District Development Board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in Baramulla on Thursday.
Reports said MLA Sopore and state Congress Vice President Haji Abdul Rashid Dar soon after the welcome address by DDC Baramulla asked Mufti to ensure safety of people first before holding board meetings.
The MLA sought response of Chief Minister over the recent killings in Sopore area. He lashed out at Chief Minister, who is also head of Unified Command, for ‘failing to ensure safety’ of people. “What is the fun of holding board meetings, when people do not feel safe,” he questioned.
The MLA Sopore told Chief Minister that people in his constituency were migrating to save their lives. “Even the officers are not able to do anything, what kind of development you are talking about,” he said. “Mufti is home minister also and as such is responsible for safety and security of the people. He (CM) has failed in instilling a sense of security among the people here.”
Dar was joined by MLCs Ghulam Nabi Monga and Mohammad Muzaffar Parray and the trio walked out from the meeting in protest against the recent killings.
The Congress lawmakers told Chief Minister when the government is unable to save the lives of people, what is the fun of holding such meetings and to talk about development of the State.
