Srinagar, June 30 : Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) Tuesday in a meeting of executive members decided to observe Doctors’ Day as Black Day to protest against the continued suspension of its president Dr Nisar ul Hassan.
A spokesperson of the DAK called all the doctors to wear black bands on Wednesday to protest against the unjustified suspension of Dr Hassan.
Dr Hassan while addressing the meeting said they have nothing to celebrate on doctors’ day as we are not even allowed to express our free opinion.
“Doctors’ day is celebrated to honour the legendary physician Dr Bindhan Chandra Roy for his professional services and social reforms. This day is observed to recognize the contribution of doctors to individual lives and communities. I was punished for unearthing the infamous spurious drug scam and spearheading a campaign against fake drug perpetrators,” he said.
“I was victimised for raising significant and vital issues of public concern. We have no reason to celebrate doctors’ day at a place where freedom of thought is criminalized, dissent is treason and criticism is espionage. Patients are dissatisfied with the care they receive in hospitals and policy makers in order to cover up their inefficiencies project doctors as villains, breaking age-old bond between doctors and patients. Doctors feel unsafe and insecure because of hostile working conditions in hospitals which adversely affects patient care,” the DAK President claimed.
“Being a doctor in Kashmir has become miserable and humiliating undertaking and he/she is like a Janitor without social status and union protection,” he added.(KNS)
