Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged heavy firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Nowgam and International Border (IB) in Arnia sectors resulting in the killing of one Border Security Forces personnel, reports said.
A BSF trooper was killed overnight in Pakistan firing on the LoC in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The trooper identified as Abhijeet Nanday of 119 battalion was killed in Pakistan firing on the LoC in Leepa Valley of Nowgam sector late last night.
Defence sources said that Indian troops retaliated effectively and firing exchanges in the area continued for several hours.
Reports also said that Pakistani Rangers resorted to firing and mortar shelling targeting six BoPs along International Border (IB) in Arnia sector of Jammu district throughout the night.
They used small arms and also fired 82 mm mortar shells targeting BoPs in the sector triggering panic among villagers located along the borderline, reports said.
Pertinently, whenever such incidents happen along the LoC or IB, both India and Pakistan accuse each other of violating the ceasefire which is in place since 2003.
