Parag Sawant, injured in 7/11 Mumbai blasts, died in Hinduja Hospital on Tuesday morning after being in a coma for 7 years.
Parag was in a Churchgate-Virar train when a bomb went off near Mira Road in the deadly Mumbai serial blasts that took place in July 2006. He suffered extensive brain trauma and was rushed to the Bhaktivedanta Hospital at Mira Road and later shifted to Hinduja Hospital. He slipped into coma after being injured in the attack.
In 2008, after being in a coma for two years, Parag miraculously came out of coma. He was bed-ridden, but was able to talk and eat properly. But after a series of convulsions, his condition deteriorated and he slipped into coma again. Parag Sawant was 26 in 2006 and worked as an assistant sales manager. Parag is survived by his wife Priti and a eight-year old daughter Prachiti. Priti, who was pregnant when Parag was hospitalised, is now working with the Railways and is the sole bread-winner in her family.
