Srinagar, Aug 24: The strike cum-protest dharna launched by Patwaris of Kashmir entered into the third consecutive day on Monday.
The Patwaris under the banner of All J&K Patwar Association have gone for indefinite strike against the government for not convening the meeting of Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).
A large number of Revenue officials Monday staged a protest in Press Enclave Srinagar alleging that from last 3 year the six meetings convened by Departmental Promotion Committee in Kashmir were without results. “In Jammu Division promotions were awarded to Patwari’s while the situation in Kashmir is altogether different,” Sajad Sidiqi, State Vice President Patwar Association told CNS.
He said over 350 Patwaris from Kashmir valley were awaiting their promotions from last three years as the government failed to hold DPC meetings in Kashmir. “The patwari’s appointed since 1991 have not been awarded any promotion. It is sheer injustice towards us,” District president Srinagar Syed Khurshid Ahmed said adding that it is a wrong notion that Patwari’s don’t demand promotion.
The protesting Patwari’s said that if DPC meeting will be deferred again, they will launch a massive agitation against the government.
When contacted, Commissioner Secretary Revenue, Muhammad Afzal Bhat told CNS that a DPC will be convened within 15 days. “Promotions will be awarded to the Patwari’s after the conduct of Department Promotional Committee meeting,” he said.
