Cabinet to take decision on suitable choice by consensus: Govt
The state cabinet is likely to take call on the appointment of new Chief Secretary after Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed returns from Delhi likely on Monday. Sources said that there are clear indications that state administration will remain headless for few days as the incumbent Chief Secretary Mohammad Iqbal Khanday has decided not to attend his office from Sept 1 (Tuesday) after submitting his papers for voluntary retirement three months before his due date of superannuation earlier this month. Well placed sources told KNS that Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed presently in Delhi is likely to return on Monday and that the state cabinet is likely to meet on September 2 to take a decision on the appointment of new Chief Secretary. Sources said that government is thinking of appointing a non-controversial bureaucrat as new chief secretary, which will have backing of both BJP and PDP. In this category, senior IAS officer BR Sharma seems to be a preferred choice. The name of another senior bureaucrat Khurshid Ahmad Ganai is also in consideration, but as he is to retire in November so his chances seem to be bleak for occupying the chair of state’s top bureaucrat. Meanwhile, government spokesman and Minister for education Nayeem Akhtar told KNS that the state cabinet is authorised to take a decision on the appointment of new chief secretary. “The cabinet will take a decision on a suitable choice by consensus,” he said.
