Expressing her grave concern over loss of lives and properties due to skirmishes on the borders, president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti Thursday said that sustainable and lasting peace is imperative for over-all development and growth of border areas. She said regretted that common people are bearing brunt of the hostility between two neighbouring countries. Interacting with people after meeting with families affected by the recent firing on the International Border (IB), PDP president reiterated her party’s demand to start dialogue process with Pakistan to restore lasting and sustainable peace on the borders. She said that her party will accomplish the unfinished agenda of sustainable and lasting peace for the prosperity for the people of the state. Pointing towards miseries being faced by the border residents, she said that people here deserve better health and education facilities as well as better road network but unfortunately they are confronting with problem of firing and shelling. “Lasting and sustainable peace is imperative for economic prosperity and overall growth of the people of border areas”, she said. Noting that dialogue is the only way to restore lasting peace in the sub-continent, she said that there was a need for effective steps to boost the process of peace and reconciliation with Pakistan. “Concrete steps should be taken to restore permanent peace on the borders. Cosmetic steps are not going to help in establishing permanent peace on the borders,” she said, adding, “the reconciliation and peace initiatives taken by former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajapyee should be taken to the logical conclusion for restoring lasting peace”. “Dialogue is one and the only way to solve all problems, and there is need of accelerate the initiatives for resumption of meaningful dialogue,” she said. Earlier Mehbooba Mufti along with senior leaders of the party visited families affected by the recent firing on the borders. She expressed her grief with the families who lost their members in the firing. She was accompanied by Political Advisor Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, General Secreatry Daman Bhasin, MLC Vikramaditya Singh, Vice Chairman SC Development Board Bhushan Dogra, Sr leaders Ved Mahajan, T S Bajwa, State Secy Jatinder Bhat, District President Jammu Rural F C Bhagat and others.
