Demanding macadamisation of Bemina-Mirgund road, residents of Sebdan area in Budgam district Tuesday threatened to launch anti- R&B and anti- administration agitation, if work is not resumed within a week’s time. Residents of Sebdan, Dooru, Khumani Chowk, Chowdry Bagh, Reshipora, Mirgund, Chakale Khan and Galwanpora in Budgam district threatened to take to streets to protest against the concerned department and district administration for failing to resume the macadamisation work process on main Bemina- Budgam road. Residents alleged that authorities suspended the macadamisation work on Bemina-Budgam roads in mid-way without any reasons, compelling locals to take to streets to meet their long pending demand. They said that they have been left high and dry as authorities stopped work process on the main road connecting Budgam with Srinagar despite doing all the pre-macadamisation work on it. “After years together the macadamisation work was started by the R&B from Garipora Bemina Bridge and after completing work on more than two kilometres, it was stooped all of sudden at Hyderia colony,” residents of Sebdan said. They said that when villagers went to inquire about the all of sudden work suspension, R&B assured them to resume work on the around 2 kilometres left non-macadamised road in a week’s time. “Department has failed to give a solid reason for stopping the work in mid- way and all of sudden. They are playing delay- delaying tactics as more than two weeks have passed when officials assured us to resume work in five days time,” they said. “We are compelled to take to take to streets to protest against the R&B and district administration for suspending the macadamisation process on this road within a week. We will block the main road as protest,” villagers of Sebdan said. Residents of Dooru alleged that despite repeated pleas to the concerned authorities, nobody was paying heed to them. They said that the road from Hyderiya colony upto Mirgund was in miserable conditions, which needs to be developed at the earliest. “Due to the pre-macadamisation work including sand and bajri on the left non- macadamised stretch, the whole area has turned into dustbin. We have started to suffer different ailments including throat and chest infection due to the dust blowing from the road when vehicles ply,” residents said. They said that the road main connectivity between Budgam and Srinagar and was also a shortest possible link to reach Budgam railway station. Meanwhile, Executive Engineer R&B Budgam, Kachu Mehmood told KNS that department had to suspend the work as there were water pipe leakages at several places from Dooru to Mirgund. “Now all the leakages are carried out and road is ok. Presently macadamisation of Shogpora-Budgam road is going on once that is finished we will shift Bemina- Mirgund road,” he said. He added that work on Bemina-Mirgund road would be resumed in a couple of days.
