Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) general secretary Nizamudin Bhat has hailed revival of Accountability Commission as a serious effort to make everyone in authority answerable before people on issues of public interest. Bhat in a statement to KNS said Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Syed propounded need for institutions to maintain probity in public life. Manning the commission by men of integrity and impeccable record fulfills a promise. He said that it has been desire of the Chief Minister to create institutions which provide a redressal mechanism against the “powerful” including his own office. That is why he reconstituted Accountability Commission in right earnest to uphold transparency and commit high offices to social audit and judicial scrutiny as and when required. Bhat said it was Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who introduced concept of Right to information and gave this concept constitutional backing by establishing RTI commission. “As and when Mufti got an opportunity he elevated institutions of public consequence and importance, consolidated these and created new ones”, Bhat said adding “ Despite difficulties he, follows his agenda of public empowerment through Democratic Forums. Bhat hoped that under Mufti’s stewardship, the government will continue to raise the standards of any institution that works for public good and system reformation. He expressed hope that the Accountability Commission will use its mandate without fear or favour in all eventualities, to serve its purpose. He said the revival of the commission will go a long way in restoring people’s confidence in democratic order and rule of law which was seen fading amid corruption , mal-administration, mis-governance and disregard for any ethics and answerability from the high echelons of power and authority.
