Amid clashes between protesters and security forces, complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district for the second consecutive day today over the death of Zahid Rasool Bhat. KNS correspondent from south Kashmir reported that protesters clashed with security forces in Khanabal, Bijbehara and Sangam areas of the district. Reports said that agitated youth pelted stones and shouted slogans against the government over the death of Zahid, 18, who died after being set ablaze by a violent mob in Udhampur district of Jammu province on October 9, when their truck was parked on the Jammu-Srinagar Highway. Police and paramilitary forces were deployed in the district to thwart protests. Protests also erupted in Kulgam in Khedwani area where youth pelted stones and shouted pro-freedom slogans. Business units, shops and government departments have been shut, while traffic on Highway is also off the roads. Zahid Rasool Bhat, a trucker who succumbed to severe burnt injuries in Safderjung hospital in New Delhi on Sunday. Zahid and his other associate Showkat Ahmad were attacked by the mob. Showkat is fighting for his life in the hospital.
