A man was critically injured after being hit by a stone at Charsoo in Awantipora in Pulwama district during clashes between stone-pelters and forces on Wednesday evening. The clashes have erupted in the area as youth were protesting against the death of Udhampur truck attack victim, Zahid Rasool. The man identified as Javaid Ahmad Sofi s/o Gh Ahmad Sofi of Sether village in Bijbehara area was admitted first to SMHS and then shifted to SKIMS for special treatment. Sofi, 30, is married and has a little daughter. He was hit on forehead by a stone and was seriously injured, said his relatives. Javaid’s relative, Abdul Majeed, who is attending him in the SKIMS hospital, told KNS that Javaid was hit by a stone on his forehead at 6 pm on Wednesday when he was sitting in a tanker driven by another person. “His condition continues to be a cause of concern for us,” he said. Medical Superintendent SKIMS, Dr Farooq Jan, said that the injured man was operated upon by doctors in the institute. “I am not in a position right now to tell you the exact nature of the injury,” he said. However, Director General of Police K Rajendra said that the man was injured during clashes between protesters and security forces. “The man was hit by a stone pelted by protesters during the clashes,” Rajendra told KNS. Earlier also, a college student from Zirpara-Naseer Ahmad-was critically injured in the pitched battles between Police and protestors. While protestors alleged he was hit by a canister, SSP Mohammad Jabbar told reporters that he was hit by a stone from amongst the protesting mob. Naseer is also being treated at SKIMS for Sub-Acronoid hemorrhage with depressed fracture in skull with doctors terming his condition as not very encouraging.
