Legislators from Kupwara district Thursday protested in the District Development Board meeting held at SKICC against the bureaucrats who remained absent from the meeting. The DDB was scheduled for discussing developmental and planning issues of Kupwara district under the chairmanship of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution minister Zulfikar Ali. Reports said the legislators from district Kupwara, including PDP MLA from Lolab and Minister for Rural Development Abdul Haq Khan, MLA Langate Engineer Rashid, NC MLC Kaiser Jamsheed Lone, PC MLA Bashir Ahmad Dar and the top district officials had made to the venue. MLA Handwara and Minister for Animal Husbandry Sajjad Lone, who is out of state, could not make it to the scheduled meeting. However, the legislators were agitated after the top officials, for whom it is mandatory to attend the DDB meets, of a number of departments remained absent. NC MLC Kaiser Jamsheed Lone told KNS that the vital DDB meeting has been cancelled twice. He lashed out at the government for what he called its irresponsible behavior towards the issues of the public interest, particularly Kupwara district. “The DDB meeting has been cancelled twice so far. Today, when all the officials and legislators made it to the SKICC, number of top officials who have to attend it did remained absent. Such careless officials are responsible for the lack of development in Kupwara district. It reflects the PDP-BJP government’s complete failure in addressing public issues,” Lone said to KNS. Engineer Rashid asked the chairman and CAPD minister as to what was the purpose of holding the meeting when the heads of the department concerned have not attended. Rashid was supported by all other legislators after which the chairman deferred the meeting for November 8. The legislators hit out at the government for failing to take public issues with interest and on priority.
