Ahead of the proposed ‘Million March’ by separatists to counter Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s November 7 rally, the government has launched a crackdown on the separatists and arrested most of the top rung leaders to thwart the march. Police on Saturday evening swooped on JKLF chairman Yasin Malik and Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shabir Shah, and arrested both of them. A JKLF spokesman told KNS Malik was jailed in Kothi Bagh along with other leaders, including Showkat Bakhshi, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Mohammad Amin Magloo. A DFP spokesman TOLD KNS that a huge contingent of police on Saturday evening arrested Shabir Ahmad Shah from his Sanat Nagar office and took him to some undisclosed location. All these leaders have supported the ‘Million March’ called by Hurriyat (G) Conference Chairman Syed Ali Geelani. Police has also arrested Hurriyat (G) leaders and detained them in different police stations. Hurriyat (G) spokesman told KNS that one of its leader Ayaz Akbar was arrested form his home in Shalteng on Saturday night, while other leaders including Imtiyaz Hyder, Muhammad Lone (Kupwara), Saif Ud Din, Habib Ullah, Ghulam Hassan Malik, Haji Gh Mohammad Mir, Ali Muhammad were lodged in different police stations. No top police official was available for comment despite attempts by KNS.
