Army on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a militant in south Kashmir’s Shopian district along with arms and ammunation. “Based on an information regarding presence of a militant in Harmain village of Shopian, a Joint operation by Army and JKP was launched today, which resulted in apprehension of an HM militant Nawaz Ahmad Najar S/O Abdul Hamid Najar R/O Harmain Shopian. Some Warlike stores like 2 hand grenades 1 Chinese grenade and some AK Ammunition has been recovered from him”, army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson in a statement issued to GNS said. He said that the militant has been involved in subversive activities since August this year in Shopian area. An FIR has been registered and the militant has been handed over to local police station, he added. Meanwhile, the defence official said, a joint team of Army and JKP today recovered a huge cache of arms, ammunition and war like stores from a hideout in Baramulla district. Acting on a specific input, Rashtriya Rifles Unit based in the area immediately launched a search operation with JKP in which a hideout was busted with large quantity of war like stores in the forested area of Gabbewar near Pirnia Village of Baramulla, the defence official said. The cache of war like stores included one UBGL with 56 rounds, 13 RPG rounds with 43 Boosters, 17 Mortar Bombs, 2 Hand Grenades, 3 Chinese Pistols with 11 magazines, 3 AK 47 magazines, over 1000 rounds of AK 47, 51 rounds of Pika Rifle and 2 Radio Sets besides some clothing items, he added.
