Two policemen were injured after angry youth attacked their vehicle with stones in Pulwama Town of south Kashmir. Witnesses told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that the trouble erupted after altercation between CRPF men from 183 Battalion and Tavera driver in the Town. “There was traffic jam in the Town this evening and in the meanwhile a contingent of CRPF passed though the Town. The CRPF men asked Tavera driver to leave quickly from the place where he was standing. However the driver told them that there is severe traffic jam and he cannot go in a jiffy,” the eyewitnesses said. They, the witnesses, alleged that the CRPF men threatened the driver and also kicked him. “The CRPF action angered locals but they (paramilitary) instantly fled from the area. However anger was brewing among youths,” they said. The witnesses said that the angry youths later caught a police vehicle bearing registration number JK01F – 2042 which was coming from Shopian and stoned it heavily. The stone-pelting left two policemen identified as Constable Shahnawaz Ahmad (belt number 360) and Constable Aijaz Wani, who is also driver, injured. Sources said the third policeman managed to flee from the spot while cops fired two rounds in air to bar youths from torching the vehicle. Soon after the incident, a posse of police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. However no one was detained by police so far.
