The Sikh community Thursday organized a seminar on human rights violations in India at Chandigarh in which the Kashmiri Hurriyat leaders were invited to highlight the abuses in Jammu and Kashmir. The seminar was organized by ‘Sikhs for Human Rights organization’, which was presided by the former Supreme Court Justice (Rtd) Markandey Katju. The chief spokesman of Hurriyat (G) Ayaz Akbar and another leader Raja Mehraj-ud-din were among those present in the seminar. While speaking in the seminar, Ayaz informed the Sikh community about the sufferings of people. “The forces on the barrel of the gun suppress our voices in Kashmir. From several decades, Kashmiris are facing several human rights violations by India,” he said. “Kashmiris have been tortured, harassed and are being arrested by state forces without committing any offences. Right now hundreds of Kashmiri innocents are languishing in the different jails of Jammu and Kashmir including the youth and political leaders,” Akbar said. Pertinently, Hurriyat (G) chiaef, Syed Ali Geelani was invited by the organization to attend the seminar but due to his bad health he couldn’t attend and sent the two senior leaders there.
