Central Delhi appeared to be in the grips of a security alert especially in the areas around the Patiala House District Courts Complex and the Congress party headquarters at Akbar Road, as party president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi are set to appear at the courts in the National Herald case. The two leaders, and other four accused, have been granted bail by the magistrates’ court. The Congress has accused the BJP-led NDA government of conducting a “political vendetta” and unfairly targeting its leaders by using “proxy litigation” in the case to divert people’s attention from “failures” in governance. 3:51 pm: Manmohan Singh: “The Congress party unitedly supports Sonia and Rahul Gandhi.
