A sub divisional police officer and his personal security officer were critically injured in an attack by militants Thursday noon in Bijbehara in Anantnag district in south Kashmir. As per KNS correspondent, police has identified the injured cop as Deputy Superintendent of Police, Irshad Ahmad Rather. Rather and his police team was deployed for Milad procession in the town when militants opened fire at the police. The two cops have been referred to SMHS in Srinagar, where from they were shifted to Army’s Badami Bagh Cantonment Hospital for further treatment. Police sources said that the unidentified militants attacked the police party at Sadar Bazar in Bijbehara town. Immediately, after the attack police and other security forces cordoned off to search for the attackers. Director General of Police K Rajendra visited the injured cop in SMHS hospital here to pay solidarity with him. Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a tele-statement to KNS, HM spokesman Burhan-u-Din claimed that its militants carried out the attack on the police.
