Kashmir is observing a complete shutdown against the alleged killing of three people by VDC members in Jammu region following the call by Hurriyat (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani. Shops, business establishments and several offices remain closed in Srinagar and other parts of the valley. Demanding immediate disbanding of Village Defense Committees (VDC) in the state, Geelani on Friday called for a shutdown against, what he referred to as VDC “terror”, the call was also supported by DFP. “We will launch a stir if the government failed to disband the terror outfit. We will launch a movement in entire state and a course of action will be formulated with the Muslims of Pir Panjal and Chenab Valley,” senior separatist leader has said. A VDC member allegedly killed a mother and her 4-year-old son on Thursday after barging inside the victims’ home and opened fire on them in Budhal village in Rajouri District. Earlier this week, a ration dealer, also a member of VDC allegedly killed a 26-year-old youth, Ishtiyaq Ahmad, a youth activist of National Conference, during a altercation also in the same district of the Chenab valley.
