Cutting across party lines, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s funeral was largely attended by hundreds of politicians on Thursday and his death was widely condoled. Mufti, the late Chief Minister died at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) New Delhi at7:30 AM on Thursday. His body was flown in Indian Air Force’s C1 30 plane from New Delhi to Srinagar and reached at his Fairview residence at 2:15 pm where hundreds of people had gathered to have last glimpse of the late leader. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also reached at his residence at 2:45 pm and paid tribute to the late leader. The Opposition leader and NC Working President Omar Abdullah also attended his funeral and participated in his Nimaze-Jinaza at Shar-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium Former Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior Congress leader Saifuddin, MoS PMO Jitendra Singh, Northern Army Chief DS Hooda, Commander 15 Corps Satish Dua, Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh besides other Cabinet ministers, NC’s Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sharifdin Shariq, CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami and bureaucrats including Chief Secretary BR Sharma, Principle Secretary BB Vyas, DGP K Rajandra and leaders from PDP, Congress, NC, BJP and other parties attended his funeral. From Share-Kashmir Cricket Stadium, Mufti’s body was driven to south Kashmir’s Bijbehara, his native town and buried his body at his ancestral graveyard in the evening. Mufti had taken over the PDP-BJP government in March last year and was admitted to AIIMS on December 24 where he breathed his last. Cutting across party lines, Mufti’s demise was widely condoled. Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad termed it a great loss to the nation. Omar Abdullah also condoled his demise and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family. Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singn said that in his political career spanning over five decades, Mufti carved out a place for himself in the history of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and the country. “His demise has created a great vacuum, which is difficult to be filled up, he said and maintained that it has caused an irreparable loss to the entire populace of the nation,” he said. PDP Minister Abdul Rahman Veeri said Mufti demise leaves a huge void in the nation particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where his commendable leadership had a major impact on people’s lives. PDP minister Syed Altaf Bukhari described death of Mufti as a great loss to the nation. Bukhari said that State has lost an astute and visionary leader. BJP Minister Chandra Prakash described the demise of Mufti Sayeed as “untimely and sad”. He said that state has lost a great leader whose contribution to the state will always be remembered. Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) president and MLA Khansahib Hakim Mohammad Yasin while condoling the death Mufti termed the deceased as a visionary leader. “In Mufti sahib’s demise the state has lost a mature leader, who had done a lot for the state in his long political career,” he said.
