A large number of people participated in a special prayer meeting at Jagti Township today in which glowing tributes were paid to the former Chief Minister of J&K, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who breathed his last at AIIMS, New Delhi, earlier this month. Various speakers deeply mourned the passing on of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and described him as a leader and statesman of remarkable political stature, who provided a healing touch to the people during his six-decade-long political career. They also highlighted his vast contribution towards progress and welfare of the people of the state, including the Kashmiri Pandit community. “Late Mufti Saab favoured honourable and dignified return of Kashmiri Pandit community to the valley. He was of the firm belief that Kashmiri Muslims were incomplete without their Pandit brethren,” they observed, while vividly remembering his visits to various transit accommodations during his tenure as Chief Minister to enquire about the availability of basic amenities and other facilities. The meeting highlighted the efforts of late Mufti Sayeed put in for socio-political transformation and betterment of Jammu & Kashmir. “He wanted to bring permanent peace to the state. In his passing away, we have lost a leader of outstanding value who was always connected to the grassroots level,” they added. The speakers vowed to carry forward the mission of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed which was aimed at strengthening the democratic and secular values in the state. “He worked in different capacities during his chequered political career and always worked for equitable development of all the three regions of the state,” the speakers remarked. A two-minute silence was also observed by the participants as a mark of respect for the departed leader. Among those present on the occasion were M. K. Dhar, Jatinder Bhat, Ramesh Koul, Ashok Sidha, Dr. Rakesh Pardesi, S. K. Raina, Nanna Ji, Roshan Lal Raina, Ravinder Bakshi, Nanna Ji Wattal, Desh Rattan, Purshottam, Ram Ji, Shadi Lal, M. L Ganju, Sudhir Bhan, Nanna Ji Raina, Mrs. Anju Koul Bhan, G. N. Raina, Ashok Jalali, A. K. Toshkhani and others.
