A historical Jamia Masjid in Bijhama, Uri was gutted Tuesday morning, and two nearby residential houses were partially damaged. Witnesses said that the blaze erupted in the roof the mosque at 11.30 am and then instantly engulfed it. The witnesses said that Darasgah and library of the mosque were also gutted in fire today. Locals said the Jamia Masjid was constructed in year 1800 by Raja Sultan Khathi. Locals said that damage could have been minimised had the fire service brigade arrived in time. “The fire tenders came after 3 hours into the fire, and the blaze was uncontrollable by then,” the locals said.
