Shutdown was Friday observed in Anantnag town of south Kashmir against the killing of a militant, Mushtaq Ahmad Haroo, an HM militant of Pushwara village, by security forces on Tuesday morning in Kokernag area of the district. Shops and business units were closed for the day, while traffic was off the roads. Amid shutdown, clashes broke out in Khanabal locality of the district with the security forces using teargas shells to disperse the protesters. Youth staged protests in the area against the security forces. Meanwhile, clashes broke out between youth and security forces near Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta today after Friday congregational prayers. Reports said that youth pelted stones toward the security forces which were deployed in the area, with police and paramilitary forces firing teargas shells to disperse the angry youth. A police official in that barring the two minor incidents in Anantnag and Nowhatta, situation in the valley was absolutely normal.
