Though the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Union President, Kanhaya Kumar was widely condemned in Kashmir Valley, the students and scholars of Kashmir University Tuesday organized signature campaign to express solidarity with the JNU students and their union president. According to the eye-witnesses, as soon as the signature campaign started in varsity, the students raise slogans like ‘We want Justice, Tum kitne Kanhaya pakdoge, Ghar ghar se Kanhaya niklenge’ The signature campaign by scholars and students was organized in front of Allama Iqbal library and were demanding release of JNU union president. While talking to KNS over phone, the students termed the arrest of JNU union president as “unacceptable”. The students said that the state government should intervene into the matter and should stop the continuous “harassment” of JNU students. “The signature campaign was organized to express solidarity with the JNU students,” they said. They said that Delhi government and police are trying to suppress the voices of JNU students. “The action taken against JNU students is glaring example of oppression,” they said. They later appealed state administration to intervene into the matter and redress the problems faced by JNU students.
