RAMBAN, MARCH 27 – Former Member of Australian Parliament and motivational speaker, Pat Farmer, who is on a Spirit of India Run- a Kanyakumari-Srinagar Marathon under the Incredible India Programme, was accorded a grand welcome at Patnitop, the gateway to Ramban district, by the local administration.
Pat and his team, which started their marathon from Kanyakumari on January 26, has so far covered about 4,600 Km and is scheduled to complete this marathon at Srinagar on March 30.
The J&K Tourism department organised a grand cultural programme, to welcome the 8 member team, in which the artists of J&K Arts, Culture and Languages mesmerised the marathon team members, tourists, officials and locals with their presentation in Hindi, Urdu, Dogri and Kashmiri yesterday night.
Pat Farmer’s team is comprised of his wife Tania, Crew Manager Katie Walsh, Doctor Joseph Grace, Journalist Kevin Nguyen, Film Director Anupam Sharma and his three assistants. The whole crew was accompanied by locals amid tight security.
The Marathon passed through Batote, Chanderkote, Ramban, Ramsoo and Banihal and was accorded warm welcome by the people, students and local officers at these spots.
While interacting with the students, Pat Farmer encouraged them to take adventurous and bold tasks in life to achieve their goals.
Speaking at Patnitop, he praised the hospitality and courtesy accorded to him and his team and said that his mission is to show the world the real spirit of India i.e. to dream big for yourself and others and inspire all. He added that his aim is to foster greater relationship between India and Australia through channels of tourism, sports and humanity.
Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Bashir Ahmed Dar, the welcome programme was jointly organised by the district administration, JKTDC and PDA.
