Srinagar, Mar 29: Director, Digestive Diseases Centre, Dr. Khuroo Medical Clinic, and noted gastroenterologist, Prof. M S Khuroo today asked the students to put in their untiring efforts while pursuing research in bio sciences.
“Hard work and selfless dedication is key to a successful research in the field of biosciences,” Prof. Khuroo said while delivering an extension lecture to the students of the Biotechnology and Zoology of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) at its Sonwar academic block.
Coordinators of different departments, Registrar and Dean of Life Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, Director, DSW, Dr. Fayaz A Nikka and other faculty members were also present on the occasion.
Referring to his discover of Hepatitis-E virus, Prof. Khuroo said the students pursuing research in biosciences need not any high tech library. “All a student needs is an inquisitive mind to explore the things,” he said.
Prof. Khuroo also screened a film “The Discovery of Hepatitis-E, The Untold Story.”
During his presentation on the topic, “Lab Errors-Whom to blame” Prof. Khuroo enumerated several measures to minimize the discrepancies in the test reports. He also spoke about ways and means to conduct different types of diagnostic tests and how they can be precise and accurate. Prof. Khuroo also spoke about pre-testing and post-testing measures that are required to ensure quality control in diagnostic management in healthcare sector of the valley.
Registrar and Dean of Life Sciences, Prof. Muhammad Afzal Zargar, while welcoming the guest, described him a researcher par excellence. He said that Prof. Khuroo has been a pioneering researcher of the valley who has brought Kashmir on the global map of research arena after his discovery of Hepatitis-E. “Prof. Khuroo has done excellent work in research and has been a distinguished gastroenterologist,” Prof. Zargar said and asked the students to take a cue from Prof. Khuroo.
Prof. Zargar also gave a detailed account about the CUK and stated that the varsity has started integrated B.Sc-M.Sc programmes. He also solicited suggestions from Prof. Khuroo about starting of other courses in CUK.
Department of Biotechnology, Coordinator, Dr. Shah Ubaid Ullah, coordinated the programme proceedings while as Coordinator Physics Department, Prof. Farooq, proposed the vote of thanks.
