As the Central Government failed to revoke the decision of imposing one per cent excise duty on manuacturing and production of gold ornaments, the jewellers of Sopore Town staged demonstration at Main Chowk Sopore and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
While the Valley jewelers strike against government’s proposal to levy 1 per cent excise duty on gold, today large gathering of Gold Smith’S from Sopore town also supports the strike call anddemonstrated at main Chowk Sopore and shouted slogans against government and demanding rollback of the act. The demonstrators were chanting slogans like ‘we want justice’.
The demonstration was headed by president of Gold Smith Union of Sopore Mr Mohammed Afzal Lara, General Sectary Haji Farooq Ahmad, Secretary of Union Mr Mukhthar Ahmad.
Speaking during the Demonstration, Union President said that the government of India’s proposal to levy 1 per cent excise duty on gold should be roll backed from the state. “With the proposal by the GoI, the valley jewelers are going to face tough time in the state. The authorities are ignoring the hardships of valley jewelers,” he said.
He said that the authorities should fulfill the demands of valley jewelers soon as soon as possible.
