Srinagar | May 1 : Ehsaas- a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) working on gender issues has called on rector Dar-ul-uloom Raheemiyah to discuss about various issues related to gender in the valley.
A team of Ehsaas briefed Molvi Rehmatullah Mir Qasmi about the issues related to widows, half widows, orphans and half orphans in the valley. The meeting took place in the backdrop of an upcoming international conference in the Islamic Seminary in Bandipora to discuss contemporary issues in the light of Hadith and Quran.
The representatives of Ehsaas said there are various humanitarian issues faced by people in Muslim countries especially in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, Egypt, Iraq and various other places including Kashmir. They said there are many issues with regard to half widows which needs to be discussed by the Ulemas in light of Islamic jurisprudence.
The representatives requested Moulana Qasmi to highlight these issues in the upcoming conference wherein a galaxy of Ulema from different Muslim countries will be participating. They said it would appropriate to highlight this issue in addition to the other agenda points.
The Ehsaas representatives also handed over a paper highlighting problems faced by women in general and widows, half widows and half orphans in particular besides compilation of various papers presented by Islamic scholars over the topic in past meetings with Ulemas.
Maulana Rehmatullah gave a patient hearing to the group and acknowledged that the issue needs to be discussed and debated to find a solution. He said the Ulemas had discussed similar kind of issues as similar issues apprised post world war and in 1947. Qasmi also extended an invitation to members of Ehsaas to participate and interact with the visiting international Religious scholars and Ulema during the conference.
“We need to find ways within the jurisprudence of Islam to address some of the issues faced by the widows/ widows especially related to their property rights,” said Secretary Ehsaas.
