Srinagar, May 10 : After ‘failing’ to defend its case in Apex Court, Government on Tuesday said that barring MBBS, BDS and MD courses, it will conduct rest of the entrance examinations for different courses as per schedule. This was informed by Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE) who added that MBBS, BDS and MD entrance tests will be conducted as per Supreme Court guidelines under NEET.
Pertinently, the Supreme Court of India on Monday turned down an appeal made by Jammu and Kashmir Government to hold separate medical entrance exams in the state. Contrary to the expectations of Jammu and Kashmir government, the Supreme Court ruled that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) would be the only test for admission to medical courses all over India.
Chairman BOPEE Ghulam Hasan Tantray told that after the Supreme Court ruling the Board can’t conduct all the entrance tests for all the medical courses including MBBS, BDS and MD. He however said that the Board has still prerogative to conduct all other exams like BUMS, exams for engineering courses, BED, MED as per schedule,” he said. (CNS)
