Srinagar, May 10 : Students will all the colleges affiliated with Kashmir University Tuesday protested against the recent fee hike passed by the university council.
Large number of students from different colleges assembled here in Press Enclave and amid anti-Kashmir University slogans demanded immediate roll back of fee hike.
Carrying placards and banners, the protesting students said that Kashmir University has made three-fold examination fee hike. “Earlier I was supposed to pay Rs 1150 but now I am asked to pay Rs 3375. This is sheer injustice towards the students. Instead of minting money from the poor students, the Kashmir University should find ways and means to improve the standard of education,” Tufail Ahmed, a Bachelor of Engineering student told.
Earlier the students boycotted classes and staged protest in front of Dean Students Welfare and then outside vice chancellors chamber, where they chanted slogans against the administration. Thereafter students protested in Press Enclave to attract the attention of media men.
Many of the students present in the protest held the view that there is a massive fee hike everywhere including examination, reappear, reevaluation, admission, hostel and expressed grave concern that the university has hiked it up to 900% in some particular cases.
The protest was organized by All Jammu and Kashmir Students Union. (CNS)
