Srinagar, May 13: Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Friday condemned the continuous house detention of its incarcerated chairman Shabir Ahmad Shah saying the present political dispensation of the state surpassed the records (of tyranny and brutality) of its predecessors.
A DFP spokesperson in a statement issued to press lashed out at the Mehbooba Mufti-led government saying she and her party while in Opposition used to raise hue and cry against the then government over the restrictions on the resistance leadership and the freedom of speech and expression. “After receiving power in charity from New Delhi, her government left no stone unturned to break the records of suppression and oppression of her predecessors.”
The spokesperson said the reality is that the so-called rulers lack courage to face the resistance leadership on political front and rule the state through military might.
Giving details of Shabir Ahmad Shah’s detention, the spokesperson said since the pro-freedom leader was released in 2011, he was placed either under house arrest or in police detention for a period of 32 months and 3 days. “During this period, Shah Sahib was barred from offering 194 Friday and nine Eid payers prayers. Also many of his close relatives passed away but he was not allowed to take part in their last rites.”
The spokesperson also condemned the continuous arrest of party’s several members and activists and the use of black laws against them saying this is shameful act and frustration of the so-called government.
“To keep Syed Ali Geelani Sahib and Shabir Ahmad Shah Sahib under continuous house detention is unjustifiable and clearly reveals that there is lawlessness prevailing in the state,” the spokesperson said.
