The State government has banned the publication of newspapers in curfew-bound Valley, with newspaper owners/editors terming it as “Press Emergency”.
The Valley-based print media outlets Saturday held sit-in protest against the government’s move to ban publication of newspapers at Srinagar’s press enclave. Holding placards, newspaper owners/editors stated that: “An emergency meeting of Kashmir based newspaper editors/owners was held on Saturday afternoon in which the situation arising out of the police raids on all the printing presses was discussed threadbare”
“This action of the government which resulted in breakdown of circulation of newspapers was strongly condemned,” they said.
The participated termed it as an attack on the “freedom of press and vowed to fight it back at all costs”.
