Sopore Calm; Police Restrictions, Nocturnal Raids, Arrests Create Tension #KashmirNow #KashmirUnrest
Security restrictions in Sopore created tension on a day otherwise unmarked by clashes. While Sopore’s youth did not confront the police today and residents attempted to reach the main market, police and paramilitary forces imposed strict restrictions on civilian movement in the old town area. At many places people were turned back by the cops. Even pedestrians were not allowed to cross the barricades. Police have also set up tin walls as temporary barricades at entry points to Batapora, Main Chowk, Chotta Bazar, Superintendent Gali and Muslim Peer, worsening the situation. The policemen turned back residents by saying that curfew was in place today.

Locals also alleged harassment by government forces after several residential areas were raided at night. The police have been conducting night raids to arrest youth they believe are involved in stone throwing. A few families also alleged that the police beat up elders in these nocturnal raids after failing to find their targets. But strong resistance by neighbours forced the police to flee from many areas without making any arrests.
