Srinagar: In Kulgam, a BJP leader, Ghulam Hassan Zargar who unsuccessfully contested 2014 Assembly polls on the ticket of saffron party, publicly resigned during a rally at Bugam in the district during a pro-freedom rally. Reports said another pro-India leader of Awami Itehad Party (AIP) from Anantnag also resigned.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted at Nowhatta, Saraf Kadal, Safa Kadal and Khanyar areas of Old City soon after curfew was lifted. The clashes also erupted at Palhallan, Trehgam and Hayen in Tral. At Trehgam, two protesters identified as Shabir Ahmad and Javaid Malik.
Meanwhile, as per the programme of pro-freedom leadership, the women staged protests at Abi Guzar, Nowgam and other areas. The women protests also erupted at Singhpora in Pattan, Vihil, Memandar and Khansahab areas of Shopian. The protests however remained peaceful. A police official said the situation was peaceful in Kashmir. (GNS)
