Thousands of protestors took the roads in Sopore Town and adjoining areas today following the Friday prayers. Pro-freedom slogans reverberated through New Colony, Nowpora, Noorbagh, Jamia, Khanqah mohalla, Kranskshivan, Shangargund. Police resorted to extreme force to disperse these processions. At Kranskhivan industrial area police had to fire pellets, shells and stun grenades to push back a procession that comprised thousands of people. Nowpora, Noorbagh and Shangargund reported similar scenes.
The injured people rushed to the Sopore Sub District Hospital leading to chaos: the hospital premises and the emergency ward were full of injured people and their attendants.
Four persons were rushed to Srinagar for further treatment. Block Medical Officer, Sopore, Dr Sami told , “I am running out of ambulances as injuries are coming from all directions.” He further said, “I have requested CMO Baramulla and Danghiwacha Hospital to send more ambulances.”
About the number of injuries, Dr Sami said, “We have received 30-40 so far and the number continues to rise as you can see from the situation outside.”
According to reporters and sources, the number of injuries is between 60-70 as many youth have opted for private clinics in Old Town areas. It is pertinent to mention here that youth these days avoid government hospitals for fear of arrests by police.
