The scholars assembled in the varsity premises and chanted slogans against the administration. The protesting scholars from Gani Kashmiri Research Scholars Inn (GKRS INN) told, “We are being continuously harassed and humiliated by the warden of the Inn. We want that the authorities must change the present warden at earliest.”
The scholars said, “We are being asked to vacate the hostel in this harsh winter.”
The scholars alleged that in order to provide backdoor accommodation to some candidates, the administration has changed the already established norms of the hostel.
“Besides, the university has not held the BORS (Board of Research Studies) meeting for last two years, hiked the fee disproportionally and play delay tactics in award of degrees after the submission of thesis,” the protesters said.
The scholars approached the administration time and again for the redressal of their grievances, but no attention has been taken thereby forcing them to take streets against the varsity authorities.
Protesters said that no hostels are being built for their accommodation, which is mandated by the University Grants Commission and no infrastructure has been developed. “The only research scholar hostel in the varsity also lack basic infrastructure facilities,” they alleged.
They said that they are determined to continue their strike until their genuine demands are being met. (KNS)
