Sopore: Lovely place to sit with every type of tasty food available from Kathi to tasty Shawarma rolls and great coffee with even a better conversation are the things which are turning Icy N Spicy, a small restaurant in Sopore town a hit among locals.
The bright yellow lights and a beautiful wooden interior nestled along the Chankhan Bridge in Sopore town of the north part of Kashmir. It’s just a few meters away from a famous New Light restaurant “renaissance”, but Mohd Haris, a young boy, who is running this restaurant, said it isn’t about the competition.
Mohd Haris, 23, a BBA pass out from Dayanand Sagar college of Bangalore, the owner of the Icy N Spicy, would have never imagined that his restaurant would be so hit among locals in just a couple of months but after the uneven response from the locals, Haris has been pushed to improve the space of his restaurant.
“I still remember a conversation with my father a few years back, when I was on holidays and had come home from Bangalore, I asked my father who is presently running a hotel & restaurant River Edge in Sopore town, that why do we close our hotel so early, why can’t we keep it open till late evening, he replied the Sopore is a town, where running a business is a huge risk and it’s not the place where people will come out of their homes to enjoy the evenings like the people in Srinagar do, that time I made my mind that after completing my degree, I will come to Kashmir & set up a restaurant where people will enjoy their evenings with their families, friends & Relatives after their hectic & busy day of work & look Icy N Spicy is the product of that idea which I made a few years back and I feel it’s turning out to be success, seeing the response of the locals in Sopore town”, Haris told this correspondent.
“Some people who have come by and said the reason they are here every evening is not just because of the novelty, but they’re tired of staying at home during evenings, they want to enjoy a good time with their families, friends & relatives and this restaurant has given them the space to make it possible, Haris said.
“Initially I know it was risky & a bold step to execute such idea in a town like Sopore, which has always remained a hot bed in militancy but after setting up of this restaurant in June 2017 , exactly during the month of Ramadan, it proved to me that the luck favors the brave, Haris said.
“Aside from the various kind of food and coffee, what has impressed me is that the location of this restaurant, which makes it be open till late evening, this is definitely somewhere everyone need to make time to visit, Mohd Rafi, a local, sitting with his family, enjoying Softy told this correspondent.
Mohd Haris, a bright & young entrepreneur in making, is planning to improve the space capacity of the restaurant in future if the response of the people remains same.
