Baramulla, Sep 8: Baramulla Working Journalists Association (BWJA) has strongly condemned the arrest of a photojournalist from South Kashmir, Kamran Yousuf, by the National Investigating Agency (NIA).
The Association has called the arrest of Kamran as an attack on the fourth pillar of a democracy, day in and out, media is being harassed by one or the other people, which will not be tolerated at all. The association has termed the allegations of being a stone pelter against Kamran as undefined and unjustifiable.
The association believes that kamran has been working with various print and electronic media organisations regularly for the past several years as a professional journalist.
“He is a reputed journalist and branding him as a stone pelter is plain fabrication of facts, said President BWJA, Mr Zargar Gulzar.
However Chairman BWJA, Mr Karamat Qayoom said in his statement that the association has appealed the state government that if NIA wants to probe his involvement in certain cases, they are at liberty, but they should understand that photojournalist is supposed to cover the incidents whatsoever be it a stone pelting, or government functions, but that does not mean that the concerned investigating agency will treat him as a stone pelter, instead of a professional photojournalist.
The Association has appealed to all sections of the media fraternity to come out in support of Kamran to ensure that no such arrests should be made in future, or fabricated cases should not be registered against any of its member be it from any corner of the state.
It is in place to mention that BWJA is affiliated with Kashmir Journalists association and other associations of the country, they have also appealed the Press Council Of India (PCI) to intervene into the matter and channelise all its resources with the concerned agency to get Kamran Yousf free from NIA.
