BARAMULLA, SEPTEMBER 22: Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women (SCW) today organized an awareness camp on gender issues highlighting various aspects of women’s rights and legislations meant to protect them at Government Degree College, Uri.
Chairperson SCW, Nayeema Mehjoor was the chief guest where as Sub- Divisional Magistrate Uri Dr Sagar N Doifode was the guest of honor at the day-long awareness camp. A large number of girl students from various educational institutions of the district were also present on the occasion.
Mehjoor, who was on a 2-days visit to the district, highlighted that dowry-related violence, domestic violence, child abuse, eve teasing are manifestations of various forms of social evils through which a woman suffers immensely. She detailed various provisions of the constitution and legislations by virtue of which they can be redressed.
She termed awareness as a necessary tool to safeguard rights of women. She said education is pivotal for girls so that they can lead a dignified life. She said that discrimination is the main cause for destabilization of social structure and stressed upon various women-friendly initiatives.
The SDM hailed the concerned for organizing such a camp and stressed for organizing such camps in every village of the district. He urged women to recognize their role in the society and assured safeguarding of women rights as his administration’s priority. He also said that women have excelled in various fields and our country has produced the strongest women personalities of the time which had played a pivotal role in the progress of our country.
Moreover a question and answer session was also held at the conclusion during which the participants asked the questions and get them answered from the guest.
Among others secretary SCW, district officers and various other health workers were present on the ocassion.
