Uri : Army on Monday claimed to have killed four militants and foiled a major militants attempt to strike at Kalgai camp on Road Uri to Kaman in Baramulla district in the early hours of 24 Sep 17.
According to army press release on Specific information received by Army from the sources about presence of suspected militants in the adjoining area of Kalgai post late in the night of 23 Sep 17. The Army established cordon in the area by midnight and intercepted the militants while they were moving. On exchange of fire, the militants took shelter in an inhabited house and took the residents as hostage. The civilians were rescued and taken out safely in a deliberate operation. After the daylong fire-fight, four likely foreign militants were killed and large quantity of warlike stores including IEDs was recovered.
While one militant was killed early morning, the remaining three militants kept the troops engaged by moving from one house to another taking advantage of the thick foliage. The houses were cleared by the Army in deliberate operation during which the balance three militants were killed. The local mosque in close vicinity was cleared by the Police keeping the local sensitivities in mind. The search operations are still underway in the Sector to completely sanitizer the area.
Militants had infiltrated well equipped with explosives and intended to carry out major attack on Army Camp at Kalgai near Uri. The alertness and resilience of the Army troops who engaged and neutralised the militants resulted in foiling another devastating militant strike in Uri Sector.
