Journalists stage sit-in, demand fair probe into Shujaat’s killing, denounce Lal Singh’s remarks  

Srinagar, June 26 : Journalists and owners of several newspapers and media houses Tuesday staged a silent protest rally here, demanding an independent, fair and credible probe into the killing of noted journalist Shujaat Bukhari.

Carrying banners, the journalists also demanded the government to probe controversial remarks by BJP MLA and former minister Lal Singh recently.

The journalists assembled at press enclave here and took out a rally before staging a sit-in protest at historic Ghata Ghar here.  The placards read: “journalism is not a crime; We will protest Shujaat’s killing even if we are alone in this,’ and Assassins of free thinking will never succeed.’

A number of senior journalists also addressed the protesters and demanded independent, fair and credible probe into the Shujaat Bukhari’s killing. Bukhari, editor-in-chief of daily Rising Kashmir Newspaper, was killed along with his two personal security guards at press enclave on June 14. (GNS)
