Imran Khan rakes up Kashmir in UNGA again, India stages walk-out

Geneva Sep 26: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan again raised the issue of Kashmir during the 75th anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Indian Army. India boycotted this speech. Mijito Vinito, a 2010 batch Indian Foreign Service officer present at the UN Assembly Hall, got up and walked out.
India’s permanent representative at the UN, TS Trimurti, said that Pakistan Prime Minister’s statement at the 75th General Assembly of the United Nations was diplomatically very low. “He made false accusations and made personal attacks. Pakistan is trying to cover up the oppression of the minorities in their country and attempts to spread terror from across the border. This will be answered correctly in the Right of Reply,” he said.
Imran Khan said in his speech, “Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is leaving behind the secular values of Gandhi and Nehru. They are engaged in making India a Hindu nation. They believe that India is only for Hindus. The RSS demolished the Babri Masjid in 1992. ”
He also referred to the Gujarat riots. He said that Muslims were also targeted for spreading coronavirus. Raking up the Kashmir issue, he alleged that India illegally took away the status of special state.
Imran Khan also mentioned the leaders’ house arrest during abrogation of Article 370. He called for the international community to investigate this. “Prime Minister Modi is making a demographic change in Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Geneva Convention, doing so is war crime,” he said.
Imran also falsely accused the Indian Army of violating the ceasefire.
In the 45th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Senthil Kumar, the first secretary of India’s Permanent Mission, raised the issue of the worsening situation of ethnic and religious minorities in Pakistan. He said, “Pakistan should remember that terrorism is the worst form of human rights violation before preaching to others. It is a crime against humanity. The world does not need to learn on human rights from a country which is known as the epicenter and nursery of terror.” (Agencies)
