Date:

Srinagar Jan 08: Two women, who were holding banners against the amended citizenship law and the National Register of Citizens during a rally of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, have been evicted from their rented accommodation in Lajpat Nagar, Delhi.

According to news agency, on Sunday, the two women, who have been evicted from their rented accommodations had put up a banner with slogans like ‘Shame’, ‘Azadi’, and ‘NRC’ in their balcony when Amit Shah held a rally in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar.

Both women have now been evicted by their landlords. When the landlord was questioned on the eviction, he said he should have “never made them their tenants”, media reported.

One of the women who was made homeless said she was only excercising her “constitutional and democratic liberty” to protest on Sunday. She said she believed it was a “perfect opportunity” to protest and show her “dissent in front of the Home Minister”.

The woman also claimed that soon after she held the banner in her balcony on Sunday, the members of Amit Shah’s rally “intimidated” her and her flat-mate and used “derogatory” remarks against them.

She also said that her landlord was part of the angry mob. She alleged that he locked her and her flat-mate inside the house nearly for 4 hours during which her landlord informed her that she and her flat-mate have been evicted.

She also said her father had to later enter the house with police to rescue her and her flat-mate. The police recorded our complaint and they left the house seven hours later after the door of the main entrance was finally unlocked by angry mob. (JKNS)
