Use of ‘abusive’ language by Dy Mayor Srinagar with doctors triggers condemnations

Date:

Srinagar, Dec 19 (GNS): The use of unparliamentary language by Deputy Mayor Srinagar Sheikh Imran with doctors at chest disease hospital and exceeding his domain to visit the hospital, on Wednesday triggered widespread condemnations.
A number of organizations including Society of Dental Surgeons J&K urged governor Satya Pal Malik to action against him even as  Sheikh Imran apologized for the remarks.

The condemnations poured in after a purported video went viral on social media in which Sheikh Imran is seen using  unparliamentary language with doctors at chest and disease hospital.

The Kashmir Economic Alliance, a conglomerate of traders bodies of Valley, condemned the “abusive publicity stunt” by the Deputy Mayor Sheikh Imran.

“It was unfortunate that instead of concentrating on his basic needs of keeping Srinagar neat and clean, the Deputy Mayor is crossing all limits for the sake of publicity,” President KEA Yasin Khan said.

He said the language used by him against the doctors as seen in the video clip was highly derogatory and condemnable.
“By which authority was he insulting any individual? No doubt doctors need to improve in accordance with the aspirations of the patients in particular and health care in general but abusing anyone, be it anyone linked to any job, is not tolerable,” he said, adding, “Taking video with commuters in buses, poking nose into hospital affairs is not the job of SMC people. The incident has shocked the entire Kashmiri society.”

Society of Dental Surgeons J&K also strongly condemned the “deplorable behavior” of Deputy Mayor Srinagar who “surpassed his service domain and was blatant indecent in his approach while on a political stint show yesterday night at CD Hospital Srinagar.”

President SDSJK Dr Imtyaz Banday appealed the Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene in the matter as in what capacity he inspected the hospital.
“His primary job is to look for sanitation and beautification of the city but to gain political mileage he has targeted the doctors in full glare just to gain some political attention. His approach was totally uncalled for and humiliated the doctors by his rude and unparliamentarian behavior.”
He said doctors across the state and in particular, Valley are doing a tremendous job against all odds that has been acknowledged by nationally.

“The inhuman & unacceptable behaviour shown by the Deputy Mayor against the doctors who are already overburdened and taxed clearly depicts that the state machinery doesn’t run as per the rules and anybody can ride it for its vested interests.”
The SDSJK appeals Governor to intervene at the earliest and take strong action against the Deputy Mayor.

SDSJK also stresses the Principal GMC Srinagar & Medical Superintendent CD Hospital to formally lodge  “FIR” immediately against the Deputy Mayor so that he is booked for his unethical, illegal & rogue behavior.

HOD Chest Disease Hospital, Dr Naveed Nazir Shah said that Dy Mayors action that using unparlimentary language against doctors and obstructing their work was unacceptable. said that Imran exceeded his jurisdiction which is condemnable. He also urged higher ups to see action is taken against him so as to prevent such incidents in future.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Imran tendered an apology over ‘unparliamentary language’ he used during the visit to Chest Disease hospital Dalgate but asked doctors not to make people suffer.

Addressing a press conference here, Imran said that he has not fired any public servant but asked his assistant to write to Chief Secretary regarding the negligence of the doctors.
“In case I have used any unparliamentary language, then I am very sorry for that but don’t make the people suffer,” he said.(GNS)
