Srinagar, Sep 1: A class 9th student was allegedly sexually assaulted in the school premises by his Principal in City Centre Lal Chowk area.
The victim got admission for class 9th at SP Higher Secondary School Srinagar this year. He hails from Tangdar area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district and resided in government quarter at Maisuma with his family.
The victim’s father Sajad Ahmed Khawaja told CNS that “My son was sexually assaulted by his Principal in school bathroom on 27th August. My son somehow managed to escape from his clutches and fled from the spot. The accused even also offered to him Rs. 5,000 to not reveal about the incident to anyone”.
“I found my son was upset for few days and asking about the reason of his upset he narrated whole the incident. When I came to know about the incident we registered our protests at Press Enclave and want the strict action against the accused”, said the victim’s father.
“We also took up the matter with concerned MLA who assured us action would be taken under rules against the Principal”.
The father of the victim alleged that his complaint against the Principal was not entertained by a police officer at Kothibagh Police Station. “One officer advised me to compromise with the Principal while another threatened me ‘dire consequences’ in case I didn’t keep my mouth shut. The police officer even told me that he will register an FIR against us for raising the issue before the media,” Sajad Ahmed said and appealed authorities to take cognizance of the ‘incident’. He alleged that police has been trying to shield the Principal.
When contacted SHO Kothibagh said that he didn’t receive any complaint from the family. “Let them file a complaint, we will take cognizance of the case,” he said.
Principal SP Higher Secondary School Reyaz Sidique told CNS that the student is naughty and he can go to any extent to tarnish the image of any person. “His allegations are baseless aimed at to malign my image,” he said.
