Thanking the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Centre (RISSC), Jordon for naming him at number nine in the list of ‘Top-10 Muslim Political Leaders’ of the world, Hurriyat (M) Chairman MIrwaiz Umar Farooq Monday said it was not a personal achievement for him but recognition of the greater cause of Kashmir. Mirwaiz said the award was recognition of the selfless sacrifices of the people of Kashmir, which he was trying to represent to the beat of his ability at the various levels and platforms by highlighting the aspirations of the people toward the resolution of Kashmir issue. He said receiving such an award would be a matter of pride and honour for anyone but the reality was that for him to figure among the ‘Top-10 Muslim Leaders’, the credit went to the people of Kashmir, who had shown perseverance and strength to carry forward their struggle. He said this recognition also drives home the point that Kashmiri issue has attracted the attention of the international community which should realise that the resolution of Kashmir issue would help bringing peace not only in South Asia but also work towards world peace. He said while the numerous sacrifices of the people of Kashmir were instrumental in playing a role in this regard, Hurriyat (M) too had from time to time highlighted Kashmir issue at both political and diplomatic level, which had brought attention towards Kashmir. Mirwaiz said people of Kashmir have a strong case which the international community cannot ignore for a long time as Kashmir issue had kept India and Pakistan, the two nuclear neighbouring countries, in a confrontation mode for the past seven decades, and became a problem for world peace. He said despite the ongoing circumstances of uncertainty in conflict and ban on political activities of the Hurriyat leadership, Hurriyat (M) continues to work for the Kashmir cause and highlight that issue at various international platforms. Mirwaiz said whether it be Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) or European Union (EU), SAARC or any other local or international organization, APHC has been highlighting Kashmir at all these platforms in light of its historical and political context. He said it was time now for the international community to play their role in bringing peace in the region by resolving Kashmir issue as per the aspirations of Kashmiris.
