Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Thursday condemned the assault on Independent legislator from Lanagte Er Rashid in the Legislative Assembly and asked the BJP leader and his deputy Nirmal Singh to for the thrashing. Bhartiya Janata Party legislators Thursday roughed up Independent MLA form Lanagte Er Rashid in the Legislative Assembly for hosting beef party at MLA Hostel on Wednesday evening. According to KNS correspondent, as soon as Rashid entered the Lower House BJP legislators caught hold of him and beat him, while other Opposition members of National Conference, Congress and some independent legislators intervened to rescue Rashid from the blows. Though Singh condemned Rashid’s thrashing by calling it “unfortunate” but he did not apologise as asked by the chief minister. Even though the ban was suspended for two months by a Supreme Court order last week, and Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had also asked people not to hurt sentiments of the other community. Rashid had organized a ‘beef party’ last evening to garner support for his anti-beef ban bill which is scheduled to come up for discussion today. NC Opposition leader and former chief minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack on Rashid by BJP legislators. The opposition also staged a walk out over the assault.
