Adbee Markaz Kamraz (AMK) Thursday organized an extension lecture on Kashmiri language at Delhi Public School (DPS) Budgam attended by the students and the staff of the school. Delivered by noted writer and historian Prof Farooq Fayaz, it was the second part of the series started by AMK in July from DPS Srinagar. Talking to students, Prof Fayaz highlighted the importance of the language and the rich cultural heritage Kashmir had. “You must be proud of your civilization that nearly 5000 year old” he said adding that younger generation was going away from its roots and “when you go away from your roots you lose confidence”. Prof Fayaz referred to legendaries such as Sheikhul Alam and Lal Ded, who shaped the identity of Kashmiri language and expressed themselves in their mother tongue. “You must adopt your mother tongue to express yourself. If you want to know yourself you should not ignore your mother tongue” he told the students adding that Kashmir’s rich civilization can only be safeguarded if the young boys and girls learn and adopt their language. AMK president Dr Shujaat Bukhari allayed the apprehensions that the linguistic movement was against any other language. “We want that our children should learn as many language but must not ignore their own mother tongue”. He said that AMK intended to take this lecture series to various schools in Srinagar and other district headquarters to sensitize the young students about the importance of their mother tongue. General Secretary Mohammad Amin Bhat also impressed upon the students to adopt the language right from their homes. “To speak Kashmiri must must become a fashion among young boys and girls” he said. Students also presented two Kashmiri songs and skit depicting the changing trend of ignoring the mother tongue. Earlier Principal Mahfooz Aslam welcomed the guests and assured the AMK members that the institution would continueto support the movement for preserving the language. Vice Chairperson DPS Mumtaz-un-Nisa Soz, AMK vice president Farooq Rafiabadi, Secretary Ghulam Nabi Shakir, Media Secretary Khurshid Qureshi, Maqbool Ferozi and Aadil Ismail were also present.
