Hundreds of government Rehber-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers Monday took out a protest march here to press their demands of release of salaries of teachers engaged under various centrally-sponsored schemes -Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) and against the screening test announced by the government. Under the banner of All Jammu and Kashmir Rehber-e-Taleem Teachers Forum, the teachers were shouting slogans against the government and for their demands. The protesters marched towards Directorate of School Education office from Press Enclave to press the government for their demands. While talking to KNS, Chairman of the Forum, Fayaz Ahmad Tantray said that the government is pushing them for protests. “We have been ignored by the successive governments from the past 15 years as hundreds of teachers recruited by them have not been regularized so far,” Tantray said. He said that after failing to regularize the teachers, the government withheld their salaries from the last five months. “We will continue to protest against the government’s behavior till our demands are not met. We have not received any salary from the last five months. The government is pushing us to the wall as without getting salaries, our survival has become difficult,” he said. He further said that almost 65000 ReTs across the state are serving the department at Rs 3000 per month from last several years. Tantray said that ReT Forum was in favor to scrutinize the fake degree certificates but won’t accept the diktat to conduct screening test of in-service ReT teachers. The protesters further informed KNS that the officials assured several times that their genuine grievance will be redressed soon but nothing has been done in this regard. The protesters later dispersed peacefully.
