Secretary Tourism Farooq A Shah today interacted with Kashmir based travel trade bodies and organisations at SKICC here and stressed for promotion of during winters to promote Jammu and Kashmir in the domestic and international markets. The Secretary Tourism who is also MD JKTDC had comprehensive brain storming session with the various travel trade representatives which was followed by the announcement of the aggressive marketing campaign in which 10 food festivals and road shows will be organized in prominent and important cities of the country which are targeted as potential markets for Jammu and Kashmir. Shah said that all these cities will be targeted to generate maximum chunk of visitors for the state in next summer and prevailing winter season, the prominent citizens, media and relevant travel trade bodies will be invited to these road shows which will be an effective platform to promote Jammu and Kashmir by showcasing the immense tourism potential of our state. He said that the department is organizing different events in the prevailing winters to attract tourists to Gulmarg and Pahalgam. He said that chief minister’s dream to see the state as one of the best destination in the world can be realized only when all of us in government and private sector can coordinate and cooperate for providing best service, safe atmosphere and traditional hospitality to the visiting tourists. He said that the hospitable culture is inherent in us and we should extend it in the tourism sector as a whole. The secretary urged the tourism department officials to work with zeal and passion to facilitate the tourists who should go with memorable moments in their heart and mind after returning back from Jammu and Kashmir. The secretary informed the houseboat association representatives that the Govt is thinking to declare the houseboats as heritage structure on the basis of Rajasthan villas so that they can be maintained and preserved with care. Shah added that the water bodies like Nigeen, Dal Lake and Jhelum will be explored for sustainable water cruise. The secretary urged the officials of tourism department, SKICC ,JKTDC to gear up for winter season and be ready for the summers proactively as conference and Golf tourism can be clubbed together for promoting it as convention an post convention niche segment , He added that j and k has huge potential to come round the year golf and conferencing destination because it has international standard facilities for both.
